Between Sundays Home

Children in the 9 to 13 year old range are growing fast—in every way. They are beginning to understand cause and effect and to see similarities and differences in both concrete examples and abstract ideas. They are very interested in the concrete and literal interpretation of symbols, beliefs and moral rules, often expressing frustration with Unitarian Universalism’s lack of dogma. This is a good age to explore similarities and differences among religious communities in your town and to reinforce commonalities among UUs (ie: our statement of principles and purposes, and chalice lighting). Older children in this age range begin to test and question beliefs and values—the hallmark of the next stage: adolescence.

Questions in the Early Childhood section might also be pertinent to your child.
